TRANSFORMING OSLO CITY’S FACADE WHILE REMAINING FULLY OPERATIONAL

Oslo City, one of Norway’s busiest shopping centers with an average of 35,000 daily visitors, is undergoing a major façade renovation.

The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion this summer, while the center has remained fully operational throughout the entire construction period.

“Our goal is to prepare Oslo City for the future of retail while ensuring the building meets today’s requirements for energy efficiency, environmental performance and sustainability. We are also focused on improving visibility, accessibility and the overall customer experience through this transformation,” says Elisabeth Lohk, Center Manager at Oslo City.

“The projects first face has been handled excellently by our contracted project manager, Oddmund Bleie from Magna, who has maintained daily contact with Håndverkskompaniet, our contractor,” continues Lohk.

“This is rehabilitation in the extreme sports category. We have replaced the exterior wall of the shopping center while the stores have remained fully operational,” says Sivert Varvin, Managing Director of Håndverkskompaniet.

Project Manager Erik Stenberg: “There has been extensive evening and night work, in addition to work during the center’s opening hours. The tenants have been our top priority throughout the project, meaning we have had to carefully manage factors such as noise and dust. Construction has also continued throughout the winter, making it crucial to ensure the building remained weatherproof and always maintained adequate temperatures.”

The team is now nearing completion of the transformation of the façade facing Biskop Gunnerus’ Gate and Lybekkergata. At the same time, the well-known shopping center is receiving a new main entrance.
