2023 RECAP - TOGETHER WE CREATE VIBRANT AND ENGAGING SHOPPING CENTERS THAT ALWAYS HAS SOMETHING TO DISCOVER
At Steen & Strøm, we look forward to taking on what 2024 offers together with both new and current retailers and visitors. We offer our retailers an opportunity to bring new dimensions to retail by innovating together to create vibrant and engaging shopping centers that always has something to discover.
2023 has been special in many aspects. We have solved the challenges that came our way internally as well as in collaboration with our retailers and this has resulted in welcoming almost over seven per cent more visitors than in 2022. We have welcomed over 40 new stores, we have had over 60 pop-ups and 25 different Act4Good initiatives exposed externally, including collaborations for recycling, for culture and supporting the local communities where we operate. Several global, strong brands have been attracted to our shopping centers all over Scandinavia.
We are proud to provide a strong platform for our retailers and visitors to Shop. To Meet. And to Connect! Thank you all for making this possible!
Some highlights during 2023:
• BRUUNS GALLERI in Aarhus has celebrated 20 YEARS ANNIVERSARY!
• The opening of MANGO in FIELD’S marked the establishment of the first MANGO store in a Danish shopping center and is an amazing addition to the fashion selection in Field’s as one of the most famous international high-street brands. Many are familiar with the trendy brand, that offers the newest fashion trends at value for money.
• NORMAL opened in BRYGGEN in Vejle and are now present in all Steen & Strøm’s shopping centers. The successful collaboration between Steen & Strøm and NORMAL has resulted in mutually favorable Scandinavian results and strong visitor numbers, which have been strong arguments for continued European launch, partly via one of Steen & Strøm’s main owners Klépierre.
• We note that several concepts with strong online sales chose to open physical establishment to offer a shop window where the customers are. • The already strong interior design hub at EMPORIA was expanded with two new operators as we welcomed DESIGNTORGET and GRANIT.
• The fact that Steen & Strøm works actively and successfully with sustainability with the objective to build the most sustainable platform for commerce was also significant to DESIGNTORGET when deciding where to establish. Sustainability is an important pillar to them as for many other brands.
• GRANIT was another fantastic complement to Emporia’s other interior design offers. The fact that Emporia has been recognized with several awards and offers a unique shopping experience was of importance in the establishment decision. GRANIT believes that this suits their store concept particularly well as the location, close to Copenhagen as the opportunity for Danish shoppers to discover the brand.
• We have a long history together with CASSELS in Steen & Strøm’s shopping centers and we were delighted to welcome Cassels also to KUPOLEN in Borlänge, where the Cassels’ offer is a good complement to the existing retail mix.
• In 2023, we have been at the forefront in terms of launching new concept, for example: H&M and LIFE. H&M’s second H&M global BEAUTY STORE opened at OSLO CITY together with H&M’s upgraded four floors store.
• LIFE has been in OSLO CITY for 20 years and wanted to move to a larger store with a new store concept, which meant better product exposure and an inspirational store structure with distinct product categories. Our collaboration has been close and very positive. Together we found the best opportunities to create an as appealing LIFE store as possible.
• It has been amazing that we have been able to spice up our F&B offering with more and new restaurant concepts. GRYTVERKET in EMPORIA, ZAM ZAM opened in METRO. Two new burger restaurants opened - F&M in MARIEBERG GALLERIA and THE BURGER CONCEPT in BRUUNS GALLERI. FIELD’S proudly opened a restaurant run by a Danish TV chef - DHABA (which is also located at Emporia). Most recently, BACKSTUBE opened their second bakery with tasty bread and cakes in OSLO CITY.
• In 2024 we look forward welcoming new brands to our portfolio and we will unveil some of them soon. JD SPORTS in FIELD’S is one of our retailers that will extend their store.
As part of our sustainability strategy, Act4Good, we have had several partnerships in all our shopping centers with organizations that work with recycling and reuse to offer and inspire our visitors a sustainable lifestyle. Campaigns such as Swap to new have been recurrent, but also pop-up initiatives for collecting and selling second-hand clothes and toys. As part of our Act4Good initiatives, we also aim to be a natural part of the communities where we operate. Young Enterprise fairs have been organized and we have partnered with local organizations to raise money for cancer research and to support children with cancer among other things.
At Steen & Strøm we also believe that culture is an important part of people’s well-being and we have welcomed many associations, artists and companies that have contributed to spreading joy in our shopping centers in the shape of dance performances as well as art exhibitions. We will continue to put the customers first.
Together with our retailers, we want to succeed in offering the best shopping experiences in strong places and we are proud to provide a strong platform for our retailers, and visitors to shop, meet and connect.
Welcome 2024 with all you have to offer – here we go!
