NCSC Awards is the shopping center industry’s price, which is awarded annually to the industry’s best.
One of the most prestigious prices is the category for Best Swedish Shopping Malls. This year there are two strong candidates who are vying to get the honor and take the title. The nominees are: Täby Centrum and Emporia.
The finals and awards ceremony will be on 16 October at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, then the whole industry will participate. This year marks the giants battle for the title of Best Swedish Shopping Malls in NCSC Awards, awarded by the Nordic Council of Shopping Centers, the association of the shopping center industry. The winner of the National Award goes automatically to the finals of the Nordic Competition being held in April 2015 in Helsinki.
Täby Centrum opened in 1968 and was then one of the first glass-enclosed center, modeled on the United States, and has since undergone a number of major changes. Between the years 2011-2014 was built the New Taby Centrum. Phase two was completed in the fall of 2013, when the southern facade was opened and gave the center an additional 14,000 sqm of space for shops. An underground parking garage on three floors was also clear last year. In the spring of 2014 inaugurated the last section, northern mall time, opened up the final area of 78 000 sqm. Emporia was completed in autumn 2012 and is the Öresund region’s largest shopping center, with its proximity to Malmö and Copenhagen and good connections to and from the center. Emporia includes a retail area larger than 120,000 square meters on three floors with corporate and residential environments, 200 shops, restaurants and coffee shops, parking lots, and with one of the world’s largest takparker. At Emporia has taken a holistic grasp of sustainability and environmental issues. Emporia is the first Swedish shopping center that obtains final environmental certification according to BREEAM Very Good. Architect: Wingårdhs architects. Owners are Steen & Strøm.

NCSC, Nordic Council of Shopping Centers, the trade association of the shopping center industry in the Nordic countries. The members come from all parts of the industry and includes the largest property owners and retailers, also investors, developers, consultants and suppliers, and representatives from other community groups and city planners. NCSC’s mission is to continually develop the Nordic shopping center market and raise the status of the industry as a professional and key players in the community. The association was founded in 1985 and now has about 1,200 members mainly from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
