Sustainable Award to Steen & Strøm

Steen & Strøm was honored with the GRESB Award “Corporate Investment in Responsible Real Estate non-listed retail” at the BREEAM Award 2017 ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel in London, March 6.


This award is for the real estate investment company that has made the strongest commitment to the use of building certifications in managing their portfolio. The criteria is based on the proportion of total existing portfolio formally assessed and certified through generally accepted building certifications and the level of commitment to drive the achievement of higher levels through corporate policies.

Based on Steen & Strøm’s 2016 GRESB Assessment submission, the high proportion of shopping center portfolio certified in accordance to ISO-14001 was the final jury decision for awarding this prize.

Steen & Strøm has for the third year in a row been classified as GRESB Green Star and regional Sector Leader #1 in the GRESB Survey and holds the position as the most sustainable shopping center company in Europe. Among 759 real estate companies, whereof 55 retail companies, Steen & Strøm managed to take the position as no 1 in Europe once again. This year, Klépierre holds the position as number #2 in the Europe Retail peer group.

The implementation of ISO 14001 throughout the organization involves structured environmental management that secures property values. The GRESB Survey includes feedback from 759 property owner worldwide with a total gross asset value (GAV) of USD 2,8 trillion. The benchmark survey measure achievements within: Management, Policy and Disclosure, Risk and Opportunities, Monitoring and EMS, Performance indicators, Building certifications, Stakeholder engagement, New construction and Major renovations.
